Organizing Spotlight: NEAT Method

Ok guys, get ready for some serious organizing porn. I recently got a sneak peek at Neat Method's most recent portfolio photos and I was so impressed I just had to share with you all. If you haven't heard of Neat Method, they're a company that specializes in stylish home organization. An Organized Closet Armoire

This little armoire closet is so perfectly organized. Shelves maximize vertical space. Dividers on the shelves keep sweater piles from toppling over onto each other. Shoe cubbies allow frequently used shoes to be organized yet accessible.  Clear shoe boxes keep special shoes (or less frequently used shoes) protected yet visible.  A box with drawers contains small items. Hooks on the doors create a perfect spot for hanging belts, scarves, and even a lint roller, which is always nice to have handy.

Picks from Zara Home

Back when I was studying abroad in Spain, I remember walking into a Zara Home store and feeling like a kid in a candy store. There were so many lovely decor items everywhere I turned. I was sad to find out though that there were no Zara Home locations in the US, and while that's still the case, as of this month the line is now available online. I browsed the selection this morning, and found several great trays, boxes, bins and baskets for beautifully organizing the home:

How Stephanie Organizes Her Handbags

Today we have blogger Stephanie Fisher of Glitter and Goat Cheese participating in the How I Organize series. She gives us a look at how she organizes her fabulous handbags:

I have to admit - I've always been the walk-in-and-throw-everything-on-the-floor type. My poor purses used to find themselves discarded on the floor on a daily basis. But when I became the proud owner of a chew-happy puppy with a penchant for raiding my bags, I knew it was time to find a better solution.

We rent a home without many built-in hanging solutions, so we utilize these over-the-door racks in several rooms. This particular one used to hold towels in our guest bathroom, but now it hangs in my office and is the home for my most-used handbags. (As you can probably tell - I have a bit of thing for black, gold and sequins.) The office is close to the front door, so it's a quick, convenient spot to unload my purse before I head in to greet my puppy. Plus, I love that my favorite bags are on display instead of hidden in a closet!

Open Clothes Rack

A fun idea for clothing storage is utilizing an open rack.  It could be a nice spot for organizing outfits for the week or for an edited selection of favorite pieces that also serve as eye candy.  A little inspiration...

Painted Closets

Concealed Bedroom Storage

The newest issue of House Beautiful, particularly the above bedroom by designer Barry Dixon, reminded of a great space solution: built-ins surrounding the bed and hidden behind beautiful curtains.

The above bedroom is by designer Adrienne Neff.  She used California Closets custom units to create one side with hanging rods and drawers below, plus a tie rack; and the other side with shelves and vertical hanging space for dresses.  Shelves above the bed provide a space for off-season clothing.  The side storage is concealed with felt cutains suspened from a track, while the shelves above the bed are concealed with a linen-blend roman shade.  The custom headboard, the rich chocolate brown paint that matches the shelving, and the swing arm sconces, keep it from having a "living in a closet" feel.

This bedroom is by Sherry and John of Young House Love. They used  two Ikea wardrobes on either side of the bed.  One for her, one for him, each customized with drawers and rods and hidden behind white curtains hung high. A valance gives it a finished effect and makes it feel like the bed is tucked into a built-in nook.

How Laura Organizes Her Shoes

This month's first guest participating in the 'How I Organize' series is the incredibly chic Laura of Laura Cattano Organizational Design and of the blog The Order Obsessed. She shows us how she beautifully organizes her shoes in her dressing area :

My dressing area is set up like my personal boutique with everything organized and displayed beautifully. This Lack bookcase from Ikea fits three pairs across perfectly, and there's room in the back for my special occassion shoes stored in their original box. Positioning the shoes front to back saves space. Off-season shoes are put away to give more room and so I'm not distracted by ones I can't wear now. 

Photograph Labeled Shoe Boxes

If you like to store your shoes in boxes, it's a good idea to label them to allow for easy identification. Photograph labels are my favorite. Simple snapshots adhered onto the boxes will do, but if you want to step it up a notch, how about taking up-close detail shots of the shoes and sticking them onto pretty kraft paper tags, like this:

If photography isn't your strong suit, you can try searching online for your shoes. Companies usually include high quality photographs in their product pages and you can print those out to use for your labels.
